ThunderRadio is a North Dakota State University organization that is run by a group of student officers and one faculty advisor. The Board of Media and Broadcasting, BOMB, oversees the station and reports directly to the President of the University. ThunderRadio has been the NDSU student radio station since 1999. From then until 2004 ThunderRadio was Internet based, in October 2004, with the start of KNDS, ThunderRadio joined the FM airwaves. The organization provides a training ground for NDSU students interested in gaining experience in fields such as radio broadcasting, journalism, news and sports reporting, public relations and marketing, business, electrical engineering, web development and more. In addition, it provides a relaxed setting for any NDSU member interested in expanding and sharing their musical interests and ideas. Along with music shows, ThunderRadio also has regular news programming and is a respected broadcaster of NDSU Bison athletics.
Radio Free Fargo is a community organization comprised of volunteer DJs from the community outside of NDSU. They joined forces with ThunderRadio during the application process for the FM license in 2002 and began broadcasting with the start of KNDS in the fall of 2004. Radio Free Fargo is run by their appointed Station Manager, and selected officers who work in equal partnership with ThunderRadio and provide important community outreach. In addition, Radio Free Fargo is dedicated to bringing the listener the best in multiple varieties of music provided by Radio Free Fargo DJs.
